The Golden State Warriors are reportedly interested in adding Giannis Antetokounmpo before the February 5 trade deadline. Ultimately, Giannis stayed with the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately for the Warriors, their pursuit of the two-time MVP never really gained much momentum despite the team’s well-documented interest in him.
In a recent article on ESPN, Ramona Shelburne revealed that the Golden State Warriors offered a package centered around four unprotected first-round picks. However, the Bucks are more interested in acquiring truly young players like VJ Edgecombe or Evan Mobley, or the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Therefore, the Warriors’ best chance of signing Antetokounmpo is to enter free agency when his current contract expires in 2027. The problem Golden State will face is that the Milwaukee Bucks may make a move before then to either re-sign Antetokounmpo or trade him elsewhere in the league.
“It’s no coincidence that teams like the Lakers, Clippers, Heat and Warriors are all providing cap space for Antetokounmpo in 2027,” an NBA executive told ESPN. “A player like Giannis can tip the balance of power in the league in the next few years.”
For the Warriors front office, pairing Giannis with Stephen Curry may still be a dream. On the surface, this partnership seems ideal. Still, the Warriors will face stiff competition in their pursuit of the All-Star forward, and given what the Bucks want in return, Golden State may not have the necessary assets to pull off a deal.
