Wales scrum-half Williams to join Saracens in 2026

Wales international Tomos Williams quits Gloucester at the end of the season and will play for Saracens next season.

Williams has been a standout player for the Cherry Whites since signing in 2024 and was named Premier League Player of the Season in June and Gloucester captain this season.

Gloucester announced his imminent departure at the start of December, with their Premier League rivals confirming on Christmas Day that he would join the London club in the summer.

“Tomos is a player we have rated highly for a long time and we are confident he will be an outstanding addition to our squad,” Saracens said in a statement on December 25.

“He is a world-class operator and we are very excited to see him pull on a Saracens jersey next season.”

Williams, 30, said: “I’m delighted to be joining Saracens, a club I’ve always admired.

“The club has great coaches and players and I’m looking forward to joining them in the summer.”

Williams was selected for this summer’s British and Irish Lions tour but after impressing in the pre-tour warm-up against Argentina, he suffered a hamstring injury in the first game on Australian soil against Western Force, forcing him to return home and shoot twice.

His departure from Kingsholm comes as his Wales team-mates Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake are set to join the West Country club from Ospreys for the 2025-26 season.

“Tomos Williams will leave Gloucester Rugby Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season,” a statement on December 16 said.

After impressing at Kingsholm, Williams was offered a new contract to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, but chose to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

“When the time comes, Welshman will leave with the best wishes from everyone at the club, but in the meantime he is fully committed to bringing his wonderful time at Gloucester Rugby to a close.”

Gloucester also announced that former academy graduate Dan Robson, 33, will return to Kingsholme next season, 10 years after he left in 2015.

The scrum-half previously made 80 appearances for Gloucester, where he began his career, before moving to Wasps where he stayed for seven years until they folded in 2022. He has spent the past three seasons playing for Pau, a top 14 team in France.
