Wales’ hopes of qualifying for the Hockey World Cup were dashed after the hosts drew with Scotland after a 3-2 defeat by Uruguay in Hyderabad, India.
Wales got off to a good start with Anya Atkin opening the scoring inside four minutes.

Manuela Villar equalized for Uruguay from a penalty kick in the second period.
Agustina Diaz then gave South America the lead from another corner in the third period before Teresa Viana doubled the lead.
In the fourth quarter, Rachel Goodwin scored from close range after a great run down the right side of the pitch by Betsan Thomas, but it proved to be a consolation goal.
India drew 2-2 with Scotland, ensuring Wales could not defeat either team.
With only the top two teams from each group reaching the qualifying semi-final stage, Kevin Johnson’s side will not advance even if they beat hosts India on Wednesday.

Having failed to reach the final four, Johnson’s team will battle for fifth through eighth spots in Friday and Saturday’s games.
Scotland only need a draw with Uruguay on Wednesday to advance to the qualifying semi-finals.
The Wales men’s team booked their place in August’s World Cup, hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, in a third-place play-off with Poland in Santiago.
