So Vandy must have thought of it, why not? Let’s shoot.

They offered Tyronn Stokes, the nation’s No. 1 basketball recruit. On3 Sports reported the news on Tuesday night.

Stokes, a 2026 graduate, transferred to Rainier Beach, Wash., this fall, but is originally from Louisville, Ky.

A month ago, Stokes announced his final three schools were Kentucky, Oregon and Kansas.

As of the time of the offer, Vandy’s basketball team was 9-0 and ranked No. 15 in the country.

What followed was the best season in the history of the football program.

Something was brewing in Nashville, and the Vanderbilt staff was pitching Stokes on the idea that he could be a part of it.

“I want to play for people off the field who really appreciate me,” Stokes told opponents in the past. “I was looking for someone to talk to about how things were going and not just talk about basketball all the time. I was looking for a home, a place where I felt comfortable.”

Stokes was scheduled to play his senior season at Notre Dame Prep in California, but after reports of the controversy, he transferred out and ended up at the Seattle-area powerhouse in Rainier Beach.

Soon, he will have to make a college decision. Vanderbilt wants a seat at the table.
