Underwear-clad runners in Pittsburgh help raise funds, awareness of genetic condition

A group of runners made the most of Saturday’s sunny weather.

It’s the 14th annual Cupid’s Underwear Run, a 1-mile dash across the North Shore in which runners wear nothing but their underwear.

About 300 people signed up for Saturday’s event, which aims to raise funds and awareness for neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on the body and nervous system.

“Basically, we want to bring awareness to neurofibromatosis,” said event director Brooke Bissell. “We want people to realize that this isn’t a bunch of people running because they’re stupid. There’s a purpose. We’re running in our underwear because people with tumors can’t always cover up their tumors.”

Organizers say their goal is $110,000, and anyone interested can still donate until the end of the month by clicking here .
