Joshua Van became the new title holder after Alexandre Pantoja suffered a serious arm injury while attempting a takedown in the co-main event of UFC 323 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Fan (16-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) caught a kick from Pantoja (30-6 MMA, 14-4 UFC). When Pantoja tried to serve, his arm popped out – the game was over just 26 seconds into the game. Pantoja apologized profusely and was escorted out of the cage, clutching the injured limb. It’s unclear exactly what his injury is, but every angle captured by UFC appears to show signs of an explosion or break.
Despite the outcome, Fan was happy to have the gold medal around his waist. His family, managers and coaches joined him in the cage as he waved the Myanmar flag, marking not only his home country’s first fighter to win UFC gold, but also the first Asian-born male champion in the event’s history. Fan also became the second youngest champion in UFC history.

It’s unclear where the division will go from here, but after Pham’s win, Ping Dalang emerged relatively fresh on the airwaves. Tyra earlier defeated Brandon Moreno via second-round TKO.
