David Turnbull believes Cardiff City’s win against promotion rivals Bradford City would be a “big statement”.
Midfielder Turnbull scored the Bluebirds’ first goal – a 20-yard curling shot – as the Bluebirds won 2-1 at Valley Parade on Saturday.

It was the second home defeat since March for third-placed Bradford, who are nine points behind Cardiff City.
“It’s a big statement. Coming here, we knew how tough it was going to be. They’ve been flying high, especially at home this season,” Turnbull told BBC Sport Wales.
“It says a lot about our mentality. Everybody is together. It shows how united we are. We love playing for each other.”
Bradford were the first team to beat Cardiff City this season, winning 3-1 in the Welsh capital in September.
Turnbull believes his team have underlined their qualification by avenging Saturday’s defeat at Yorkshire.

“This is a huge victory,” he said. “We knew coming in here they handed us the ball, so we wanted to show them we were a better team than we were that day.
“We had to fight for it in the end. We played some good football in the first half and pulled away at times. It was a huge result.”
Turnbull is a technically gifted player capable of scoring spectacular goals, but his long-range strike against Bradford was his first league goal since November 2024.
He also scored with a superb diving header against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in December, with the Scotland international looking to add to his tally.

Turnbull said of his goal at Valley Parade: “I was going to shoot with my left foot and saw the defender come over and hack the ball away and the rest is history.”
“I feel like I’m getting better every week. The focus now is on being consistent and doing it on a regular basis. I feel like this is the best I’ve done as a team since I’ve been here.”
