At a book signing in February, Newsom sat down with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and spoke brutally honest about his academic experience, saying, “I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress you that I’m the same as you, I’m not better than you. I’m a 960 SAT guy, you know, I’m not trying to offend anybody – you know – trying to be good in a situation where you got a 940 – but really, a 960 SAT guy.”

Trump again brought up Newsom at a rally in Kentucky, saying, “He admits he has mental problems. He’s not a smart man. He has mental problems – a mental incapacity. He can’t read speeches, he can’t read, and all the other things he says. He says he has a lot of mental problems.”
