president Donald Trump On Tuesday, he solemnly claimed that lovers would no longer be killed on the streets of Washington, D.C., thanks to his efforts in the nation’s capital.

The president reflected on the first year of his second term during a White House press briefing. Trump began his speech by holding up multiple photos of suspects and praising ICE’s efforts in Minnesota, before rattling off his administration’s various accomplishments so far.

One of his achievements, he claimed, was reducing crime in the nation’s capital. Months ago, he deployed thousands of National Guard troops to the city to clear the streets.

The president went on to say that people no longer need to worry that their “loved ones” won’t be killed:

Washington is a very, very dangerous place, and I think you probably know that better than I do. A lot of people in the media thanked me for that, but some of them found it hard to thank me… Washington, D.C. now – look how beautiful – Washington, D.C. now, you can walk from here to a restaurant and through downtown. You can be with your children, your loved ones, your loved ones. Your lover can no longer be killed, so you can act like a true lover.
