“This is why” – Fabrizio Romano reveals reason behind controversial Chelsea transfer decision

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea are “very annoyed” by Borussia Dortmund’s public comments about Aaron Anselmino.

The Blues signed Anselmino from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2024, and he made his debut at the Club World Cup last summer.

Chelsea have decided to loan the 20-year-old to Borussia Dortmund for a season to continue his development and adapt to European football.

Chelsea annoyed by comments from Borussia Dortmund’s Aaron Anselmino

The youngster put in some impressive performances in Germany, but injuries limited him to just ten appearances in the first half of the season.

Dortmund expressed interest in signing him permanently, but the Blues opted to recall the Argentine last month.

Chelsea are believed to be unhappy with Dortmund’s comments about Anselmino.

The German club are understood to be unhappy with Chelsea’s decision and Romano has now explained why the Blues did so.

“Chelsea are extremely annoyed by what Dortmund have said publicly about Anselmino in recent weeks and months, talking about their intention to move him permanently,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Chelsea have always considered Anselmino part of their long-term plans so they are not happy with these comments and that is why they have decided to recall Anselmino.”

Argentinian youngster joins Strasbourg on loan

After being recalled, Anselmino will now join Strasbourg on loan for the remainder of the season, while Mamadou Sarr is likely to return to Chelsea.

It was reported that Anselmino was initially not keen on a move to France, but later appears to have changed his mind and will continue his development in Ligue 1.

Sarr is reportedly expected to arrive in London on Monday before returning to Chelsea and is well known to Liam Rosenior, who worked with him in France for 18 months.

How many games Sarr will play remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see what Ronniol’s plans are for the 20-year-old.
