Thiago signs new long-term deal – and is named Premier League POTM

Top scorer Igor Thiago has renewed his contract with Brentford until 2031, with the option to extend for another year.

The 24-year-old Brazilian forward is the Premier League’s second top scorer this season with 17 goals in 26 games, helping the west London club climb to seventh in the table.

He joined Brentford in 2024 but his first season was cut short by injury.

“In the beginning, when I first came, I was injured. The staff and people around the training ground were all helping me and supporting me,” Tagore said.

“When the fans support me and I see them singing my name and singing my songs, it gives me more power. I’m just so happy for all the love they’re giving me. It means a lot.”

Head coach Keith Andrews said: “It’s fantastic that Thiago has committed his long-term future to the club.”

“The connection he has with his teammates, staff and fans and what the club means to him and what he means to us is all evident.

“He’s an important player for us so this is a contract he fully deserves and I’m really pleased the club have been able to get it done.”

It was a day of double celebrations for the striker, who scored five goals in five games (including a hat-trick against Everton) and was named Premier League Player of the Month for January.

This is the second time he has won the award this season after winning in November.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Thiago said.

“I asked people at the club how many Brentford players had won this trophy and they told me no one had won it before me. So I’m really pleased to have won it twice now and I’m looking forward to, hopefully, winning more!

“I would also like to thank all the staff and all the players for their support and help on the pitch.”
