The Texas football team lost its third player to the NCAA transfer portal of the day. Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Melvin Hills III will join redshirt freshman quarterback Trey Owens and redshirt sophomore running back C.J. Baxter as “former” Longhorns. Texas also lost star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. to the NFL Draft on Monday.
The Louisiana native redshirted in 2024 and played in just 28 games in four games with the Longhorns in 2025. The Lafayette Christian Academy product is one of only two signed defensive tackles in Texas’ 2024 recruiting class. Hills was signed to bring someone in after missing a few DTs that year.

Hills, a three-star recruit, is the lowest-ranked non-pro prospect in the Longhorns’ 2024 recruiting class and is ranked No. 685 nationally according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
The new single-window transfer portal is still weeks away, but a number of players have announced their intentions early to give them more time to find a new home.
