Texas A&M star outfielder shines in dominant 2026 season opener

Texas A&M started the 2026 college baseball season with a bang, erupting for 15 runs led by two home runs from star junior outfielder Caden Sorrell, while standout freshmen Nico Partida and Boston Keller also performed well defensively and had four hits and five RBIs at the plate. Second-year head coach Michael Earely’s team got off to a strong start with a 15-6 victory over Tennessee Tech.

The Aggie offense looked to be the team’s strength entering the season, especially after transfers Chris Hacopian, Wesley Jordan and Jake Duer joined the lineup, all of whom had impressive seasons, although Duer’s 2025 season was cut short due to injury. Coupled with the return of star hitter Gavin Grahovac, Texas A&M’s offense managed an impressive 18 hits, 14 RBIs and three homers.

On the mound, junior South hander Shane Sdao, making his first start in nearly two years, showed no signs of flinching, striking out five, allowing seven hits, and no walks on 83 pitches in 5 1/3 innings. While half of Tennessee Tech’s run game is a three-run homer, Stall can rest easy tonight and continue to improve as the season goes on.

Caden Sorrell’s performance is no surprise as he possesses elite talent and has shown MLB-level power on the field, while his patience and experience, combined with the adversity he endured due to injuries last season, make him eligible to compete for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft.

The Highland Village, Texas, native has established himself as a consistent home run threat with three hits in six at-bats, but his patience at the plate and increased focus on hitting the ball instead of breaking baseballs will help A&M’s offense find more consistency, especially as competition intensifies following this weekend’s series.

Chris Hacopian is already one of the best hitters in the county with three hits and two runs, which makes Sorrell, Hacopian and Gavin Grahovac an extremely dangerous lineup that could lead the Aggies back to the College World Series.
