Texas A&M coach Mike Elko will enter the second part of the offseason after the spring season ends with the annual maroon and white game on April 18, showcasing 17 transfer portal additions and 25 of the 26 signees for the 2026 recruiting class.
Now fully focused on the 2027 recruiting class, the 2028 cycle will be a secondary focus for the Aggies as they offer the son of the former Texas A&M standout running back. On Monday, 2028, four-star running back Ian Thomas, whose father, former Texas A&M star linebacker Rodney Thomas, was a first-team SWC selection in 1993 and 1994, passed down his elite traits to the incoming Tomball (Texas) junior.

Thomas is one of the most complete running backs in this cycle, possessing the speed, vision and, most importantly, the footwork and balance to average more than 7.5 yards per carry during his sophomore season in 2025 and rack up 1,528 yards and 20 touchdowns while catching 212 yards and two scores.
Texas A&M already has SEC invites from Kentucky and the Texas Longhorns on Monday, and Texas A&M will likely have the early advantage given Thomas’ legacy and Mike Elko’s emergence as one of the top coaches in the country after the Aggies made the College Football Playoff for the first time in history in his second season.
According to 247Sports, Thomas is currently positioned as the 39th-ranked running back and No. 1 running back in the 2028 class and the No. 5 overall prospect in the state of Texas.
