Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class is starting to take shape, with head coach Mike Elko and his staff making multiple visits this month. While the new year started with a long list of 2027 and 2028 applicants, inclement weather has halted most on-campus recruiting activities until further notice.
New defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill and offensive coordinator Hallmon Wiggins are focused on a core core of players in the 2027 cycle, recently calling on 2027 four-star quarterback Jace Johnson, whose star continues to rise, while five-star cornerback John Meredith, the No. 1 pick in the class, and five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson are two other names to watch.

Another rising cornerback prospect, three-star Trenton Blaylock out of Houston, Texas, is continuing to weigh his options, but in a recent interview with Opponent Insider Sam Spiegelman, Blaylock revealed that Texas Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Texas A&M are schools to watch, with the Commodores currently leading the way.
However, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko’s background in the secondary is still a distinct advantage for an elite corner and safety prospect, and, due to the weather this weekend, Elko reportedly paid a visit to Atascocita High School’s Blaylock as the bond between player and coach continues to grow.
“Especially the past few weeks, they’ve been recruiting me heavily,” Blaylock said. “What they did was sit down and talk to me for weeks on end, which definitely meant a lot to me. They also told me a lot about A&M as a whole and to sit in front of a guy like Coach Elko, who spent time with me, showed how important I was. They wanted me to jump in as soon as possible and be part of the best overall DB class in Texas A&M history, so that definitely piqued my interest.”
Texas A&M’s 2027 defensive back class already features commitments from blue-chip four-star safeties Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell, as well as four-star cornerback Raylaun Henry and four-star athlete/cornerback Hakeem Frampton, who is also emerging.
If Elko can secure a commitment from Blaylock, Texas A&M’s future secondary will excel under the defensive structure and play-calling of Elko and Hemphill.

Blaylock is currently the No. 44 cornerback and No. 64 prospect in the state of Texas, according to Rivals.
