Normally, high school state championship games are suspended only when severe weather disruptions or global events occur. Tuesday night’s Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A state championship softball game between the Sebastopol (MS) Attendance Center and the Myrtle (MS) West Union Attendance Center was postponed for very different reasons.

A swarm of flying termites was reported to have appeared during the game, leading to the postponement of Sevastopol’s game against Western United until this morning, according to reports from spectators including Daily Sport. Game is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Central time with Western United leading 4-0 in the fifth inning.
James Murphy of The Daily Sports reported that after the fourth inning, all players left the field because the field was infested with bugs and coaches wanted the game to be stopped due to interference.

Western Union took control of Game 1 of the series through four innings as they had allowed six hits and four runs, all of which came in the top of the fourth inning. Sevastopol had just two hits on the night so far until the game was postponed due to a termite fly.
The MHSAA Softball State Championships are all held at the Miss Southern Mississippi Softball Center in Hattiesburg, MS.
