Florentino Perez’s unexpected call for elections shocked many Real Madrid fans as now seemed like the wrong time to take such a step. After all, the club is already in chaos.
There is no doubt that the current situation is the most difficult period Perez has faced as Real Madrid president, and his call for elections also indirectly shows that he is not afraid of being replaced.

While Perez usually keeps his presidency unopposed, there are rumors that Enrique Riquelme could run against him this year.
After all, the candidate even confirmed his interest in serving as Real Madrid president in a recent social media post, admitting he was considering a run.
It is strongly recommended not to run
As reported by Miguel Serrano (h/t Madrid Only) in a recent update, Riquelme and his team have a plan to revolutionize Real Madrid and are ready to take on any candidate in the elections.

The only candidate they’re afraid of confronting is Perez.
Riquelme’s partners do not recommend that he take on the current Real Madrid president because of his legacy at the club and the fact that he is almost synonymous with the institution at this point.
They believed that they had everything to lose and nothing to gain if they participated in the upcoming elections and advised him to wait for the next election.
wrong idea
The pressure on Florentino Perez has reached an all-time high in recent weeks, especially after the huge fallout behind the scenes. Riquelme and his entourage therefore expected the Real Madrid president to step down.

When he began considering a run in January, the Spanish businessman expected Perez to name a heir apparent and step down, with the idea being that he would succeed him.
However, Riquelme was not willing to take on Perez himself.
Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Perez faces any formal competition in the upcoming elections or is successfully re-elected.
Regardless, Real Madrid will hope to resolve the issue quickly and begin to address the holes in the squad.
