South Carolina women’s basketball ends Vanderbilt’s undefeated season

The South Carolina women’s basketball team dominated, handing Vanderbilt its first loss of the season on Sunday, 103-74. South Carolina’s victory avenged Thursday’s 94-82 overtime loss to Oklahoma State.

It was an all-around performance from South Carolina State, which led by double digits most of the night. The Gamecocks shot 62% from the field and 10 of 17 three-pointers for a 59% shooting percentage.

The Gamecocks were led by senior Ta’Niya Latson, who finished with 21 points. Junior guard Tessa Johnson scored 20 points and made 4 of 7 three-pointers. It was Johnson’s fourth consecutive game scoring in double figures.

Mississippi State transfer Medina Ocott was a force to be reckoned with in the paint, scoring 17 points on 8-9 shooting. South Carolina’s leading scorer Joyce Edwards scored 16 points.

Vanderbilt’s leading scorer Mikayla Blacks scored 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Commodores in the game. South Carolina’s defense ended Blake’s streak of eight consecutive road games with 25 or more points.
