Sony has brought the ability to join Discord voice chats directly from the PS5 console. The PlayStation parent company launched Discord integration with PS5 in an update last year, but PS5 players must use the messaging app on their PC or mobile device to initiate the connection. Now, players can have Discord voice chat directly on PS5. Sony has revealed plans for the first time to integrate Discord into PlayStation consoles in 2021.
In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony announced that it will be rolling out the ability for PS5 players to join Discord voice chats directly from their PS5. The feature will be gradually rolled out to users over the coming weeks.
How to Join Discord Voice Chat on PS5
To join a Discord voice chat directly on PS5, go to Game Base in the console control center, select the Discord tab, and select the Discord server or DM group you want to join.
Then, select your preferred voice channel and this will show you more information about the people who are already chatting there. According to Sony, PS5 users will also receive PS5 console notifications when another Discord user calls them, allowing users to join the call immediately.
Discord voice chat will be rolling out in the coming weeks, first in Japan/Asia, then in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, and the Americas. To get the feature, the PS5 must be updated to the latest system software, and PlayStation Network (PSN) and Discord accounts must be linked.
PS5 file sharing function
Sony also announced a new profile sharing feature that allows players to share their PlayStation Network profiles on any messaging or social app. This can be done through the PS5 console and PlayStation app. Players can select the “Share Profile” option to generate a shareable link or QR code for their PSN profile. When the recipient opens the link or scans the code, they can add the profile owner as a PSN friend. The ability to share profiles will start rolling out next week.
