Smyth doubtful for Tennessee game with illness

Charlie Smith had his practice cut short due to illness, and his team listed him as “questionable” for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans in the New Orleans Saints.

Smith celebrated his new three-year contract last weekend by scoring 17 points in the team’s 29-6 victory over the New York Jets.

Former Gaelic football player Smith was rewarded for scoring the game-winning goal against the Carolina Panthers with a spot on the Saints’ 53-man roster and a new contract.

The 24-year-old will either have to be permanently promoted to the roster, or he’ll have to be lifted from the Saints’ practice squad on three previous occasions.

Smith had his best performance in the NFL in Sunday’s win over the Jets, knocking down five field goals and scoring two extra points.

The Saints have won three of Smith’s four NFL games so far, and he has a successful onside kick (7% success rate), a game-winning field goal and 17 points in a single game.

After facing the Tennessee Titans, the New Orleans Saints will complete the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons.
