After 17 years of serving Columbus, Skillet has closed its doors.
A letter was posted in the front window of the restaurant at 410 E. Whittier St. announcing the closing and thanking customers for their nearly two decades of support.
Skillet, located at 410 E. Whittier St., has closed after 17 years.
“After 17 wonderful years of serving the Columbus community, we are writing to share the bittersweet news that Skillet will be closing its doors,” the note read.
The restaurant first opened in 2009 as a farm-to-table food truck and later transformed into a brick-and-mortar location in German Village. Known for its locally sourced comfort food, brunch and country American cuisine, Skillet has gained a loyal following over the years.
The letter reflects on birthdays, first dates, weddings and family gatherings hosted by the restaurant, saying customers are “part of our story.”
“Columbus is more than just where our business is, it’s our home,” the note read.
The message was signed by the Kaski family, who thanked longtime staff and the community for their support through the ups and downs of the economy.
While the restaurant is closed, the family said Skillet’s hot sauce and other retail items will continue to be sold online.
The letter did not include further details about the reason for the closure, and an announcement has not yet been made on the restaurant’s social media pages.
