Should the Boston Celtics retire Al Horford’s number? It’s no secret that the Celtics have a lot of these jerseys sitting in retirement, which should come as no surprise considering the franchise’s storied history. But considering there are still enough jersey numbers to accommodate multiple NBA players, the trend is no reason to hesitate in honoring Boston’s 2024 championship big man.
So the real question isn’t hand-wringing over jersey number availability, but whether Horford has done enough for Boston to deserve it — and whether his decision to leave the team twice in free agency instead of once will also impact that outcome.
