Detroit (Fox 2) – Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting that left one person injured on westbound Interstate 96 early Saturday morning.
Backstory
Authorities received reports of a rollover crash around 1:15 a.m. and also received a ShotSpotter alert indicating approximately 10 gunshots in the area of ​​Interstate 96 near the Southfield Expressway. Police responded but were initially unable to locate the crash site or any apparent evidence of a shooting.
Around 1:50 a.m., Dearborn police notified state police that a 22-year-old Detroit man arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound and reported that he had been shot while driving on the highway.
When police arrived at the hospital, they learned that an unknown SUV had pulled up next to three people on westbound I-96 and fired several shots at them before continuing westbound.
One of the passengers was shot multiple times and drove himself to a hospital for treatment. His condition is unclear at this time.
Troopers then conducted a sweep of westbound I-96 and recovered several shell casings.
