Sebastian Tounekti’s Sunday trip to Hammarby, surely an impact player for Tannadice

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again this morning, Sebastian Tunekti is far more effective as an impact player for Celtic….

Sebastian Tunekti traveled to Sweden yesterday to take part in the Swedish Cup match between Hammarby and Djurgaden and will definitely be on the bench for Tannadice this Sunday…

It’s fair to say that Sebastian Tounekti has been hot and cold since his £5m move from Swedish side Hammarby in the summer. Yesterday he returned to his old club and watched Hammarby’s Swedish Cup match Zor Garden.

The 23-year-old Tunisia international showed huge potential during his time at Celtic and caused us problems on a number of occasions, with the cup tie against Dundee and the recent comeback win at Rugby Park immediately coming to mind.

Even in the 2-2 draw away at Ibrox a fortnight ago, it was Seb and Leo Hartart who changed the course of the game after being replaced by Martin O’Neill in the second half, injecting much-needed creativity into the side and ultimately earning us a vital point that will be crucial in our title race this season.

Despite Seb’s raw promise and proven ability, he has one major weakness, and that’s his consistency, where he’s mediocre one week and outstanding the next. This is not a habit you can get used to if you want to do well at Celtic Football Club.

Sebastian did not have a better game against Motherwell on Saturday. Although he hit the post and looked lively, he was a well-known weak link in our side as he often neglected his defensive duties and the visitors were forever exposed. It was no shock to see the Tunisians fascinated at half-time,

Martin O’Neill won’t tolerate such slack from his wide players as he wants them to be as focused defensively as they are offensively.

Fans were therefore not surprised to see Tomas Chiwankara come on in the second half for the Tunisian, leaving Diazan Maeda to take over from Tunekti on the left, a position he excels in and is more capable than his younger colleague.

Sebastian Tounekti will still play an important role in our title challenge, after all he is a very talented player. But for me, his talents are best realized off the bench. He will improve over time, but for now, he is what can best be described as an impact player, as he has shown at Rugby Park.

I expect him to be available this weekend as a substitute for Celtic’s “revenge mission” at Tannadice on Sunday lunchtime.
