Manchester United are in the market for a midfielder and have been linked with a surprise move for former Carrington graduate Scott McTominay.
The 29-year-old spent 22 years at United before leaving in 2024 and proved to be a revelation for Napoli.

His outstanding performance earned him the Serie A MVP award and he was named the 18th best football player in the world at the Ballon d’Or.
McTominay’s form attracts Manchester United
The Scotland international is not slowing down, having scored 10 goals and provided four assists this season.
Naturally, his performances attracted a number of suitors, including from his former club. The Napoli ace appears to have unfinished business in the Premier League.
However, as F365 reports, that dream may not come true so soon, as the Naples-based club are close to extending the midfielder’s contract.

They have reportedly offered a new deal until 2030, with the option to extend for a further year, which would see the former Manchester United star receive a pay rise.
New contract quotes on the table
The reigning Serie A champions have reportedly received lucrative offers from the Premier League and the Saudi Professional League, prompting them to make a move.
“Scott McTominay’s contract extension talks with Napoli are progressing well. A new contract until 2030 + options for 2031 and a pay rise are on offer.

The midfielder’s agent appears to have played a role in pulling the strings, calling out the 20-time English league champion by name to drum up interest in his client and pressure Napoli to offer him a lucrative new contract.
Manchester United need a defensive midfielder, not Scott McTominay
The fact is that Manchester United don’t need Scott McTominay. They desperately need a backcourt playmaker to replace Casemiro.
McTominay was widely recruited in this position by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but as his experience in Italy and his final season in Manchester showed, this was clearly a false image.
The former academy graduate is best at playing closer to goal in order to arrive late into the box to finish off chances, a position currently occupied by Bruno Fernandes. Hopefully this latest update will end the saga for good.
