Scenery catches fire during Christmas stage show

An entertainment venue says a “thorough investigation” has been completed after a small fire broke out on stage at the end of a show.

Great Yarmouth Racecourse said fireworks lit up the scenery at the end of its Christmas pageant on Saturday night.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service attended the building on St George’s Road at 20:35 GMT but said the fire was extinguished before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

In a post on Facebook, the venue thanked the audience for “remaining extremely calm” and said scheduled performances would go ahead as planned.

“The quick response of our excellent fire department is greatly appreciated and thankfully no further action is required at this time,” the statement said.

“We have completed a thorough investigation and have taken additional steps to ensure this does not happen again.”
