A hiker shared a video on TikTok of a situation that could have resulted in injury or even death. Video captures the moment a wild goat threatens to attack a hiker, all because of another person’s poor choice.
This short video shows a hiker’s perspective when they encounter a goat on the trail. Further up the trail, a group of people can be seen on the other side of the goats.
Viewers can clearly see a member of the group picking up a rock and throwing it at the goat, causing it to suddenly stand upright. The camera shakes violently as TikTok posters try to determine if the goat is coming toward them.
“Seeing my life flash before my eyes,” the hiker wrote in the video’s caption.
Interacting with wild animals can be extremely dangerous. While many wildlife attacks are the result of unprovoked encounters, intentional encounters like the one in this video are becoming increasingly common as humans continue to evolve.
As contact between humans and animals becomes more frequent, the opportunities for conflict increase.
Wild animals that attack humans are often euthanized by wildlife officials. Experts say if an animal attacks, it is likely to attack again even if provoked. These include endangered species.
In California, gray wolves are beginning to make a comeback. Currently, there are only about 50 to 70 endangered carnivore species left in the state. Wildlife officials made the difficult decision to kill a limited number of wolves after large numbers of cattle began dying. Experts say killing predators is the surest way to prevent cow deaths.
Commenters on TikTok were shocked by the bad behavior in the hiker’s video.
“Why the hell are you throwing rocks at it?” posted one user.
The best course of action is to avoid contact with wild animals. If discovered, humans should stay away from it as quickly as possible without disturbing it.
