Last season, the Giants went even further, signing Willie Adams and trading Red Sox star Rafael Devers midseason.
Still, San Francisco has a lot of work to do in order to compete with the two-time defending champions. So far, the Giants have been linked to acquiring a second baseman in addition to one of their top starting pitchers.
As far as second base goes, the Giants have been linked to Brendan Donovan of the St. Louis Cardinals via trade or free agent Kim Ha-sung.
On the pitching side, San Francisco has been linked to Zach Gallen and Franber Valdez after missing out on Dylan Seth.

However, a new free agent has emerged on San Francisco’s roster. Cody Bellinger is another name the Giants have verified, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
With Devers likely to be a full-time first baseman, Bellinger could fit in center field and left field, depending on Lee’s position.
Bellinger, a former National League MVP as a member of the Dodgers, will make an immediate impact. In addition to the MVP, Bellinger won two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove Award. In addition, he has extensive postseason experience, including an NLCS MVP and World Series championship. While playing for the Yankees last season, Bellinger posted 5.1 WAR, 29 home runs, 98 RBI, 160 hits and a .272 batting average.
While Bellinger is expected to have many suitors, the competition in the NFC West would become even fiercer if he chooses the Giants.
