The Chicago Bears remain a chameleon this year. They adjust and change their style as needed in order to win football games. Against the San Francisco 49ers, the Bears had to run an efficient offense and rely more on their passing attack, resulting in the best game of the careers of many of their young stars, led by Caleb Williams.
Here are my five expectations for Sunday night’s game between the Chicago Bears and the 49ers:
Caleb Williams and Brock Purdy have a great day in the air
“Sunday night’s game between the Bears and the 49ers is going to be a high-scoring, classic prime-time football game. I think a lot of that is due to the high production from both quarterbacks. I think Caleb Williams is going to have a big day against the 49ers’ young defense. I could see Caleb throwing for 300 yards, and I think Brock Purdy is going to do his best to match that. The stakes are high in this game, and both quarterbacks are going to be at their best.”
Caleb Williams and Brock Purdy both performed on Sunday night. Both quarterbacks had one of their best games of the season on Sunday night; both threw for over 300 yards and at least 2 touchdowns. Ultimately, it was Brock Purdy who beat Caleb Williams, but it was encouraging to see Caleb Williams perform like this in a game that felt like a playoff game.
DJ Moore catches for over 125 yards
“Another week without Roman Odenze, but thankfully Caleb’s connection with DJ Moore looks as strong as ever. As an added bonus, Caleb has Luther Burden back on Sunday night, another key contributor. However, I think DJ Moore is the Bears’ primary receiver for another week in a row. Moore has been as valuable as ever lately, and he may score another game-winning touchdown. At the very least, I think Moore caught 125 yards and one catch against Moore in prime time against 49 He looked like a No. 1 receiver.”
DJ did exactly the opposite of what I predicted when it came to his battle with the disease. Caleb Williams is still playing his best game as he was the Bears’ No. 1 pick in the previous draft. Moore not being a factor opens the door for Luther Burden to look like a superstar and put up better numbers than I thought DJ Moore would.
Montez Sweat was sacked for the 10th time this season
“Montez Sweat has been outstanding this year, bullying the Packers’ backup tackles all game long. A clear example of this was when he bulldozed the Packers’ backup tackle at the end of the game and sent the game into overtime. Sweat has 9.5 sacks on the year, against 49 with the Bears “Sweat was one of the guys on Chicago’s defense that took down Brock Purdy at least once in this game, and he’s a familiar face in the backfield.”
Montez Sweat wasn’t a big factor in the Bears’ game against the 49ers. It was a very disappointing performance and he was one of the worst defensive players on the field for the Bears. On the bright side, Austin Booker stepped up, showed some energy and made some big plays, but also got sacked.
Bears defense throws two interceptions against Brock Purdy
“Brock Purdy is no stranger to throwing picks. In 7 games this year, Purdy has thrown eight interceptions. The Bears have a knack for creating takeaways as they are the No. 1 team in this category of defense in the NFL. While I think Brock Purdy will throw a ton of passes, I think the Bears will take two interceptions away from him. I think Tremaine Edmonds and Jaylen Johnson are the two biggest turnover picks for the Bears.”
The Bears started the game with an interception and my prediction looks pretty good. After the interception early in the game, the Bears defense went with it and nothing else made sense. It was absolute domination by the 49ers over the Bears.
Bears capture NFC North title and end Week 17 atop the NFC standings
“The Bears have had a very lucky season this year, and I don’t think their luck will run out anytime soon. In Week 17, the Bears have a formidable opponent competing with them for the No. 1 seed. The 49ers lost a lot of key players, but still have the same great coaching, if not better, on both sides of the ball.” Christian McCaffrey and Brock Purdy keep the Niners’ offense alive. Even though the Bears are underdogs in this game, they have everything I think will help the Bears on Sunday night. The Carolina Panthers are no strangers to upsets, having beaten the Seahawks earlier on Sunday at No. 17. After this week, the Bears will sit atop the NFC with a first-round bye in the playoffs.”
The Bears clinched the NFC North heading into Sunday night’s game, but fell short of their goal of a No. 1 seed with a loss to the 49ers. The home team is the Bears, who will host a game at Soldier Field, something the Bears dreamed of before the season began. The Bears still have a chance to lock down the NFC’s second seed, which would give them the possibility of multiple games at home in the postseason, increasing their chances of making the postseason.
