Red Wings score 4 times in third period to beat Jets 5-1

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — JT Compher scored twice to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,225 on Saturday night.

The Red Wings bounced back from a 4-3 overtime loss to Minnesota on Thursday and now have points in each of their past five games. The Jets have lost four of their last five games.

Lucas Raymond and Marco Casper had a goal and an assist respectively, and Alex DeBrincat also scored for the Red Wings, who scored four goals in the third period.

John Gibson made 26 saves to earn his 21st win of the season. Gibson is now on an eight-game winning streak.

Cole Koepke scored for the Jets and Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves in their fourth straight loss.

Koepke opened the scoring at 10:08 of the second quarter. The goal ended Winnipeg’s scoreless drought at 5-on-5 dating back to Jan. 17 against Toronto – a game that lasted 235 minutes and 48 seconds.

Detroit responded with 4:10 left when Comper tipped a loose puck in the penalty area. Former Jets player Andrew Copp had the assist.

Raymond scored his 18th point of the season, extending his scoring streak to five games. After a video review, the goal was determined to be a lob.

The Red Wings swept the season series 2-0. Detroit won its first home game on December 31, 2-1.
