Real Madrid tracking developments around two defensive targets

According to a report from Rodella via ESPN, Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on two centre-backs who are at different stages of their careers but share similar athletic traits, namely Jeremy Jacquet and Nico Schloterback.

The renewed focus on centre-backs is no coincidence as Real have faced growing problems at the back this season, with injuries disrupting continuity and several senior players facing uncertainty.

As a result, both David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are nearing the end of their contracts, forcing clubs to seriously consider long-term solutions rather than short-term ones.

At Valdebebas, our aim is to secure a player who can grow into both a backbone and a leader in the defence. This is where Juni Calafate’s work becomes crucial.

The scouting department has given very positive reports on both Jacquet and Schlotterbeck, putting them firmly on Madrid’s radar.

Two options for the future

Journalists mentioned that Jacquet was seen as a future defender.

The 20-year-old Frenchman first came to Madrid’s attention at the 2024 European Under-19 Championship, where his performances have stood out for his maturity and physical authority.

The club has since continued to monitor his progress closely. Now established in the first team at Stade Rennes, he has proven he can meet the demands of Ligue 1 at a young age.

Jacquet has strong athletic ability, fast running speed, large defensive space, and is good at defense. He fits Real Madrid’s classic center back model.

However, with the contract running until 2029, any move would be complicated and potentially costly.

Schloterback, meanwhile, represents a different kind of opportunity, with the Dortmund defender already proving himself at the highest level.

With his contract expiring in 2027 and no obvious sign of an extension, Dortmund may be open to talks next summer, which could make his situation easier.
