Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa also made some interesting selection decisions for this game, one of which was to start youngster David Jimenez even though senior right backs Danny Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold were both available and in the squad.
In the 76th minute, Arbeloa chose to make adjustments at the right back position, sending Trent to replace Jimenez and letting Carvajal sit on the bench.
Carvajal is upset.
Now, according to journalist Rodella, Carvajal is clearly upset about what happened after the game as he continues to be ignored by the new Real Madrid boss.
The 34-year-old Real Madrid captain was seen talking to fitness coach Antonio Pintus after the game, in which he appeared frustrated.

Pintus tried to comfort the experienced right-back and explain things, but that didn’t seem to work as Carvajal seemed to have trouble understanding why he was being ignored.

After all, the Spanish international has been back fit and in the team for over a month, but has only played two games in that period – both as a substitute (13 minutes against Albacete and 14 minutes against Monaco).
In contrast, Trent, who only returned to the team yesterday, quickly got a chance to play, while Arbeloa chose Jimenez to start.

What did Arbeloa say?
In an interview with the media after the game, Arbeloa explained why Carvajal did not play for Real Madrid despite being available, saying:
“I’ll make it very clear. I see Danny improving day by day in training. Gradually. Obviously, I’m not taking any risks.”
At the same time, he emphasized the importance of the 34-year-old defender, saying: “In the dressing room, I don’t need to explain the importance of Danny. He is the one who always has something to say before and after the game.
“Players need a reference like him in the dressing room and I’m sure he’ll find his groove. With the patience and hard work we’ve put in and his dedication, I’m sure he’s getting closer to regaining his influence.”
