Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to Launch in 2026, Ubisoft Announces Free Update for the Lost Crown

On Monday, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake project finally received confirmation of its release window at Ubisoft Forward. The action-adventure game will launch sometime in 2026. Ubisoft has confirmed that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has successfully completed pre-production and has now entered full production. The announcement comes after the game, which was first released in 2020, endured a troubled development period. The publisher also provided the latest information on Ubisoft Forward’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and the recently released Prince of Persia.

At Ubisoft Forward, the publisher revealed a new trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remastered and confirmed a 2026 release window. The publisher said the game is now in full production, but didn’t provide any other details. The remake project was first announced at Ubisoft Forward in 2020 and experienced multiple delays during development.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remastered was initially handled by Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai before being handed over to Ubisoft Montreal in 2022. Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Pune and E-Studio are currently assisting in the development of the game. The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was first released in 2003 on Game Boy Advance, PS2, GameCube, Xbox and Windows. The game is considered a classic of the action-adventure genre.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Updates

Ubisoft also provided other updates for the Prince of Persia series, confirming free updates for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Prince of Persia. The publisher has announced that the free “Holy Trials” update for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now available to all players. This update adds 22 new expert challenges for players to test their mettle.

“Players can now enter the Memorial through a special door in the Sanctuary and choose from four sets of challenges. These challenges become increasingly difficult and are designed for unique, exotic conditions,” Ubisoft said in a press release. These include platforming challenges, puzzles, combat-based trials, and newly revamped boss battles.

Trials will be unlocked as the player progresses and unlocks new powers. However, Ubisoft confirmed that those who have already completed the trials will have immediate direct access to all of them within their existing saves. In addition, players who successfully defeat the modified boss at the end of each set of challenges will be rewarded with four new amulets and costumes.

The publisher also revealed the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown story DLC, Mask of Darkness, which will launch on all platforms in September 2024.

Prince of Persia’s Rebellion Update

The recently released Prince of Persia also received its first major title update during the Ubisoft Forward conference. The publisher has announced an update for roguelite platformer Temple of Fire, which is still in Early Access. The update adds a new biome with new enemies, traps, and traversal challenges. The update also brings two new creatures, the Shield Warrior and the Duelist, as well as a new weapon, the Flame Censer.

Ubisoft said: “This update also introduces a meta-progression skill tree, allowing players to use the shimmer of souls to unlock continuous improvements.” The publisher said that the Fire Temple update will be the first major content addition to the game, and there have been multiple updates in Early Access before the 1.0 release.
