PlayStation State of Play Showcase Announced for May 30, Will Feature 14 PS5, PS VR2 Titles

Sony has announced that it will host its State of Play gaming showcase on Thursday, May 30th. The livestream will begin at 3pm PT / 6pm ET (or 3:30am UTC on Friday) and will showcase updates for PS5 and PS VR2 games. The show will also showcase a slew of first-party games coming from Sony later this year. The last State of Play presentation aired on February 6, and Square Enix took a deep dive into Final Fantasy 7 Reborn.

What to expect from State of Play

The showcase will last more than 30 minutes and will showcase 14 PS5 and PS VR2 games. Sony has yet to reveal any details about the show’s content, but Team Asobi is expected to unveil a new Astro Bot game, an update for Destiny 2: Final Form, and an announcement about PS VR2 PC game support. It’s unlikely that Sony’s first-party studios will make big announcements, such as an update for Insomniac Games’ Wolverine, or the next game from Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio, as the showcase will focus on PlayStation Studios games launching in 2024.

Summer Games Showcase Activities

The State of Play showcase will kick off the summer gaming industry event season. Following Sony’s show on May 30, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Gaming Festival (which has effectively replaced E3 as the biggest summer gaming event) will be broadcast live on June 7. On the same day, Devolver Digital will host its own direct showcase. The Summer Game Festival’s Developer Day event, which focuses on indie games, will also take place on June 7.

Microsoft will then host an Xbox Game Showcase on June 9, followed by a direct demo dedicated to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The PC Gaming Show will also be held on June 9th. A day later, Ubisoft Forward will bring updates for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and Star Wars: Desperados.

Sony has already held two State of Play live broadcasts this year. The first showcase was held on January 31, showcasing games such as “Death Stranding 2”, “Starblade”, and “Rise of Ronin”. This year’s second State of Play theme is “Final Fantasy 7 Reborn” and will be broadcast on February 6. The latest event will be broadcast live on PlayStation’s YouTube, Twitch and TikTok channels.
