This could be Corey Conners’ lucky day at the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour.
The Canadian Tour pro made back-to-back eagles during the first round at Innsbruck Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida, on Thursday, March 19.

Starting on the back nine, Connors hit the flagstick from 145 yards out on the par-4 18th hole for a 2-stroke. Then, on the next hole, he chipped in from 40 yards to the green on No. 5, No. 1, for a 3.

As a result, Connors went from 1 under to 5 under in two holes. No putter required.
Additionally, a PGA Tour News Service post shared that the back-to-back eagles were the first in Connors’ 743 career rounds. At the same time, he is the first player to accomplish this feat at Valspar Stadium and the second player to do so this season. David Ford had a 2nd and 3rd Eagle at the Cognizant Classic.

Connors, a 34-year-old pro who played at Kent State, has won two PGA Tour titles and earned $31.5 million in his career. He won the 2023 Valero Texas Open and the same event in 2019. He finished tied for 13th at last week’s Players Championship.
Unfortunately, Connors’ fortunes seemed to be deteriorating. He followed up his back-to-back eagles with two shots immediately and stayed at 3 under through 13 holes. Sungjae Im leads the way at 7 under.
Overall, the Valspar Championship has purses of $9.1 million and features top players Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick. Golf Channel will begin coverage March 19-20 at 2 p.m. ET. NBC and Peacock will cover the third and final round on March 21 and 22 from 3 to 6 p.m. ET. The entire event will be streamed live on the ESPN app.
