Peoria may drop objections to Boyd Gaming’s new casino in East Peoria

The Peoria City Council held a special meeting Monday to approve a settlement with Boyd Gaming over the replacement of the Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino in East Peoria.

If passed, Peoria would “receive a percentage of reported adjusted gross gaming revenue after the redeveloped gaming facility opens to the public,” according to the agenda for the 6 p.m. meeting. The city of Peoria will also withdraw any objections to a new $160 million casino.

The proposal could end a dispute between Peoria and East Peoria over a 1991 agreement that stipulates that any land-based casino must be built on the Peoria side of the river. Renderings of the new casino were released in December and will feature 29,000 square feet of casino space, 20,500 square feet of ballroom space, a steakhouse and gastropub.

Boyd said in a speech last month that the new casino is expected to be completed by the end of 2028 after 16 months of construction.
