As of right now, the Lakers are the fourth seed in the Western Conference, but that’s certainly not how things have looked throughout December. They are currently 2-3 for the month and are very, very close to 1-4.

There are some glaring issues that seem to have been swept under the rug, such as a lack of overall athleticism and defensive prowess coupled with their poor bench.

One of the issues that’s been shown is a slightly noticeable decline in LeBron James’ performance.

Although he has only played 8 games, LeBron is averaging 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.6 assists so far this season. Those numbers are nowhere near what we’re used to seeing from LeBron James.

Lakers fans aren’t the only ones noticing the rapid decline in play this season. Now it’s caught the attention of one of LeBron’s old rivals, Paul Pierce, who has some thoughts on the Kings in LeBron’s 23rd season.

Pierce said: “LeBron… I can guard LeBron right now. I can guard this version of LeBron right now!”

I’m making a crazy statement for a few reasons. First, Pierce retired nearly 10 seasons ago, back in 2017. Second, Pierce couldn’t guard LeBron during his career, so what exactly does he think will change since then?

No matter how sluggish Paul Pierce’s current state is, LeBron will package Paul Pierce like a U-shaped trailer without a second thought.

Hopefully, James can make these comments seem more and more ridiculous as the season goes on, and with the news the Lakers released about Austin Reeves today, Los Angeles is going to need it.
