Patrick Mahomes injury update: How long will the Chiefs QB be out?

It seemed like the Kansas City Chiefs’ disastrous season couldn’t get any worse, and on Sunday they found a new way forward.

As the Chiefs looked to avoid elimination from the playoffs against the Chargers, quarterback Patrick Mahomes – who was already injured in his knee – hyperextended his left knee after a pass.

Mahomes fell to the ground in severe pain and needed help to the locker room. Although he left the field with a towel over his head, he did not need the injury cart. Considering their position in the game, Mahomes never appeared on the field again. He was replaced by Gardner Minshew, who ended up with the game’s interception.

With the Chiefs out of playoff contention after the loss, we’ll likely see Mahomes’ last outing of the season.

Mahomes is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine the full extent of his injury. Hopefully this doesn’t carry over into next season.
