Patrick Mahomes: Don’t know why this had to happen, I’ll be back stronger than ever

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, injured in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, is set to undergo an MRI on his left knee, but head coach Andy Reid said the injury doesn’t look good Mahomes seemed to feel the same way about the test results.

Mahomes was injured during the scramble and headed to the locker room after a brief trip to the sideline medical tent. Mahomes didn’t reveal any details about the injury, but he didn’t say he’d be playing football again anytime soon.

“Don’t know why this happened,” Mahomes said. “It hurts, to be honest. But all we can do now is trust God and attack over and over again every day. Thank you to Chiefs Kingdom for always having my back and everyone who has reached out and prayed. I will be stronger than ever.”

Sunday’s loss knocks the Chiefs out of playoff contention, and it looks likely that Gardner Minshew will start at quarterback in Kansas City.
