Parkway Central High mourns passing of student

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — Parkway Central High School is mourning the death of a student.

Parkway Central High School Principal Dr. Tim McCarthy made the announcement Tuesday, informing the community that Central High School senior Olivia Bumbac, 18, died from her injuries in a car accident Monday evening.

Another student was also injured in the crash and hospitalized, McCarthy said.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bomback family as they mourn the loss of their daughter and sister,” McCarthy said. “Another student was injured in the accident and is currently hospitalized; our thoughts are with him as he recovers.”

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) report, the fatal crash occurred on westbound Interstate 64 on Sunday, February 15, and involved two vehicles with Bumbac as a passenger.

“A tragedy like this will impact many in our community, especially Olivia’s friends, classmates and teachers, as well as others who may not have known her but were affected by her death,” McCarthy said.

The principal said the school is providing mental health resources to students, staff and families following Bombak’s death.

Students gathered for a vigil on Tuesday night to remember the 18-year-old.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Bomback family as they mourn the loss of their daughter and sister,” McCarthy said.
