Padres tie season highs for hits (14) and runs in 10-5 win over Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jackson Merrill had three hits and two runs, Xander Bogart homered and the San Diego Padres tied season highs with 14 hits and 10 runs to beat the San Francisco Giants 10-5 on Tuesday night.

Sung-Mun Song hit a two-run double, his first MLB hit, advanced to third on a throwing error with two outs in the fourth inning, and scored on Merrill’s single to cap San Diego’s five-inning run and make it 6-4. Song, a 29-year-old Korean infielder who signed with the Padres in December, went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

Miguel Andujar had a single, a double, a triple and an RBI, and Bogaerts and Nick Castellanos had two runs each.

Walker Buehler (2-2) allowed four runs and struck out five in 5 1/3 innings for the Padres, who ended a six-game winning streak with a 3-2 win on Monday night. San Diego went 40-23 against San Francisco in the 2022 season.

Logan Webb (2-4) allowed six runs and seven hits in four innings for the Giants.

Jesús Rodriguez homered and drove in two runs for San Francisco. The 24-year-old catcher went 0-for-4 in his MLB debut on Monday, getting his first hit with an RBI single in the second inning and a single in the seventh. Casey Schmidt hit a two-run home run in the first inning.

Padres RHP Matt Waldron (0-1, 9.88 ERA) will face Adrian Hauser (0-3, 7.12) on Wednesday in the final game of a three-game series.
