A man who ran the London Marathon wearing Transformers Optimus Prime has broken a Guinness World Record.
Matt Batchelor from Milton Keynes broke the record for the fastest marathon dressed as a 3D toy, running 26.2 miles in 4 hours, 19 minutes and 23 seconds, more than half an hour slower than the previous record of 4 hours, 53 minutes and 30 seconds.

Batchelor, 40, described crossing the finish line as an “absolutely incredible moment” and even transformed his costume back into a truck, which required him to crawl and then walk down the shopping centre.
“The DJ there started playing Transformers sounds. It was an epic moment – the best day of my life,” he said.

In a post on X, Guinness World Records confirmed that his attempt had been successful, describing it as “a great record”.
Batchelor told the BBC he knew he would break the world record around mile 16 because he was running faster than he had been training for.
“I just decided to rely on the crowd. [They were] The cheers really cheered me up,” he said.

Batchelor ran on the red track in Milton Keynes in full gear as part of her marathon training.
In April 2024, he ran the marathon to raise funds and awareness for Thrombosis UK after experiencing severe deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
He described the London Marathon experience as “absolutely epic” and said he would take part in the Milton Keynes Marathon on May 4 but would run “in normal clothes”.
