Online Gaming Bill 2025: Real Money Gaming Platforms Reportedly Wind Down Some Online Games

With both Houses of Parliament recently passing the Online Gaming Bill 2025, it has been reported that real money gaming (RMG) platforms such as Dream11, MPL and Zupee appear to have started reducing some of their RMG-related operations in the country. However, users can still access games that do not require a deposit. The Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025 will promote esports and other social gaming while banning online money gaming services in the country.

Platform reportedly restricts access to games that require deposits

Entrackr cited anonymous sources as saying that Dream Sports told employees that the company would shut down the RMG business during an internal town hall meeting. Dream11’s RMG business has reportedly been shut down due to the new Online Gaming Bill 2025, which recently passed the Lok Sabha and the Federal House of Representatives. The company has not officially announced its RMG business plans.

Sources told the publication that the company now plans to shift its focus to expanding its gaming business that does not require users to deposit or use funds. Additionally, Dream Sports may launch novel online gaming formats for other markets outside India, according to reports.

Other online gaming companies may also be looking to reduce their RMG operations in India. TechCrunch reports that Zupee, which offers the online Ludo game, has shut down its website. technology shout employees were unable to access the Zupee website and its app has been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India.

Zupee said in a statement to technology shout that it will continue to offer games such as Ludo Supreme, Ludo Turbo, Snakes & Ladders and Trump Card Mania for free, while paid games have now been discontinued. “We remain committed to providing fun, engaging and responsible gaming and entertainment experiences for free to our more than 150 million users across India,” a company spokesperson said on Friday.

TechCrunch also discovered that another RMG app, Mobile Premier League (MPL), will stop accepting deposits and said users will be able to withdraw funds from the wallet starting August 22.

These developments come soon after India’s upper house of parliament passed the Online Gaming Bill, 2025 on Thursday, a day after the bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. It aims to ban all kinds of advertising for online games involving real money, while also setting out a regulatory framework for esports. The bill will come into effect as soon as the President of India gives his assent and the government publishes the bill in the Gazette of India.
