Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead in Meridian on Sunday afternoon.
The Meridian Police Department said in a news release that the Ada County Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls about a shooting near the McDonald’s at 195 E. Central Ave. around 12:39 p.m.
“Witnesses reported that one male victim shot another male victim multiple times,” police said.
Police said they found a 27-year-old man dead when they arrived.
Police found a 23-year-old man at the scene and immediately took him into custody, according to the release.
“There are witnesses to the shooting as well as multiple pieces of video evidence available for review,” Meridian Lt. Brandon Frazier said in an email.
Frazier declined to answer the Idaho Statesman’s request for more details, saying more information would be released “as our investigation yields more facts.”
The Ada County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim at a later date, according to police.
“This incident is isolated in nature and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” the Meridian Police Department said. “The loss of life is a tragic incident and the sensitivity of such investigations is critical as we conduct this investigation.”
