Big changes are happening at Ohio State University. The school board announced Monday it has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Walter “Ted” Carter.

Carter, 66, resigned after disclosing an “inappropriate relationship.”

“The president recently disclosed to trustees that he had inappropriate relationships with individuals seeking public resources to support his personal business and tendered his resignation,” an Ohio State statement said.

“The Board of Trustees thanks the Chancellor for his contributions to the university over the past two years. The 2035 Civic Education Strategic Plan, rising national rankings, growth in research spending and multiple new scholarship programs, along with the team the Chancellor has assembled, have elevated Ohio State’s position as a national leader.”

The university added that it will share details about the transition to the new president in the coming days.

Ted Carter previously served as president of the state of Nebraska and superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Walter “Ted” Carter released a statement explaining his decision.

“I have made the difficult decision to resign as president of Ohio State University for personal reasons. I disclosed to the Board of Trustees that I had made a mistake in allowing inappropriate access to Ohio State University leadership,” Carter said.

“I believe we have made great progress during my tenure at Ohio State, and I am sorry that I cannot continue to serve as your president. The students, faculty, and staff at this university are among the best in the world, and the 2035 Civic Education Strategic Plan positions Ohio State for success in the years to come.”
