No. 9 Oklahoma knocks off UTA in final warm-up before SEC play

No. 9 Oklahoma’s baseball team will enter this weekend’s Southeastern Conference play on a five-game winning streak after beating Texas Arlington on Wednesday.

OU has lost just twice this season and will enter the league with a 15-2 record. Skip Johnson’s club will face No. 22 Texas A&M, which is now 15-1 and riding a six-game winning streak, in a three-game set starting Friday. The Sooners have yet to play a true road game this season.

On Wednesday, whether it was home or on the road, it didn’t matter. Six OU pitchers combined to strike out 14 batters and allow just one run on six hits in the 6-1 win. Dallas’ only drive came on an RBI grounder in the top of the first.

Oklahoma State loaded the bases in the bottom half of the first, but didn’t score until Jason Walker sneaked in at home to tie the game in the second. Walker then scored on an RBI single from Brendan Brock after stealing second base in the fourth inning to give the Sooners the lead. Bullock then grabbed second of his own and scored on Cam Johnson’s single back up the middle to give Oklahoma a 3-1 win

The two led the way for the Sooners, with Bullock going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a steal and three RBIs. Walker made two of three shots and scored three points. Walker and Bullock scored again in the sixth inning, with Bullock hitting a double to center field and Kyle Branch and then scoring on Detan Lachance’s single.

Mason Bixby pitched two shutout innings, struck out six and induced ground balls in two precise innings of work to earn the win for OU.
