The Patriots will begin preparations for the offseason after losing to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl X on Sunday. One of the key issues facing New England is deciding who to pursue in free agency and who to pass up.
One player the Patriots may consider parting ways with is pass rusher Klavon Chaisson, who is set to enter free agency. However, CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles believes re-signing Chaisson should be New England’s top priority this offseason.

“The Patriots spent the most money on free agents last year, but Klavon Chaisson was arguably their best deal,” Pereles wrote Thursday. “Chaisson posted a career-high 7.5 sacks on a one-year, $3 million contract (and added three more in the playoffs). There should be a strong market for the 26-year-old Chaisson.”
New England signed Chaisson to a one-year, $3 million contract last offseason, and he had a great season. He has 7.5 sacks in 16 games and is the main reason the defense has taken a huge leap forward this season.
Because of Chaisson’s stellar play, the Patriots will likely spend more to bring him back, with Spotrac recently estimating his market value at $9 million per season.
Chaisson has played six seasons in the NFL and will likely seek a long-term deal this offseason in order to have a stable home for the remainder of his career.
