NFL ranks starting QBs: Where is Titans’ Cam Ward?

Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward was given a tough assignment this season and he handled it with excellence, calmness and professionalism. There were many times when he would lose his cool and yell at different players or coaches, or at least express some anger, which was acceptable. He did express some frustration but placed the blame on himself.

After the regular season ends and we evaluate how the season went, the NFL recently ranked all 32 teams’ starting quarterbacks. They are divided into five tiers, with people like Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts belonging to the first tier. Cam Ward fell into the fifth tier, ranking 25th overall.

Cam Ward’s rookie season was that of a typical first-year signal-caller playing alongside a cast in need of extra reinforcements. He showed amazing creativity as an improvisational artist, gradually building a rapport with fellow rookies Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor, delivering some stunning highlights and having plenty of room to grow.

In 17 games, Ward completed 59.8% of his passes for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns while throwing seven interceptions and 11 fumbles. But he’s not the worst in the league, and that’s a positive. There are five quarterbacks ranked below him in the fifth tier (Geno Smith, Tua Tagovailoa, Jaden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., JJ McCarthy) and two in the sixth tier (Shade Sanders, Justin Fields).

Ward definitely has room to grow and develop, which is why finding the right head coach and offensive coordinator is so important. He has the potential to be an elite quarterback, but it will take the right combination of coaching, and it will take some time.
