NC Children’s receives $25 million gift to advance mental health care

North Carolina Children’s Hospital, the state’s first dedicated children’s health system, has received a $25 million donation from Coca-Cola Associates to advance mental health care for children and families.

The donation will support a family-centered facility and programs that address medical, emotional and social well-being, according to the release.

This is the first major gift to support NC Children’s $1 billion goal for its new campus in Apex, which will house a 570-bed hospital and more than 100 behavioral health beds.

“We are deeply grateful to the entire Coca-Cola United family for this wonderful gift,” said Dr. Wesley Burks, chairman of the board of directors of North Carolina Children’s Hospital. “Their collaboration will transform children’s lives, allowing NC Children’s Hospital to build and expand behavioral health programs across the continuum of care – from preventive and outpatient services to intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and residential treatment – establishing a world-class model for behavioral health for children and adolescents.”

North Carolina Children’s Hospital, opening in 2025, is the state’s first comprehensive, freestanding children’s hospital, a partnership between UNC Health and Duke Health.

Headquartered in Charlotte, The Coca-Cola Company has more than 4,000 North Carolina employees dedicated to serving the community.
