Mother crashes into fleeing burglars after they attempted to break into Sherman Oaks home

A Sherman Oaks mother’s frantic dash toward burglars trying to break into her home while her children and grandmother were inside left the entire family shocked and fearing for their safety.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon when the couple went out, leaving the grandmother to watch the children. According to family members, two masked men wearing gray hoodies appeared outside the rear sliding door. The grandmother immediately called her daughter to frantically warn the suspect of the attempted break-in.

The family said the burglars likely turned off the home’s security cameras before climbing over the front fence, plunging the couple’s state-of-the-art security system into darkness.

The mother, who was out at the time, soon returned in her G-Wagon. She said the adrenaline rush caused her to inadvertently hit the suspect’s white Honda. Surveillance video shows two men immediately fleeing on foot. Shortly after, a third man struggled to escape from the passenger side, likely the getaway driver, as the driver’s side door was jammed.

The thieves left a wealth of evidence behind when they fled. LAPD officers collected radios, walkie-talkies, crowbars, wallets and identification from the damaged vehicle.

The family said they are now afraid to leave their home, even for short trips or holiday gatherings.

Homeowners say they hope having the suspect’s name and address will allow police to make significant progress in the investigation.
